Headquartered in the Chicago suburb of Westmont, Illinois, Safeway Insurance maintains offices and operations in every state we serve. While we began in the greater Chicago area, we have expanded to operate primarily in the southern United States. Today, we offer auto insurance coverage in nine states: Alabama (began in 1988), Arizona (1982), California (1995), Georgia (1985), Illinois (1959), Louisiana (1974), Mississippi (1991), New Mexico (2009) and Texas (1982). In addition to auto coverage, Safeway also operates Safeway Property Insurance Company in Florida.
Since its inception, Safeway Insurance has been under the leadership of Board Chairman and President William J. Parrillo. Robert M. Bordeman, Chief Executive Officer, leads the management of the organization. Today, we are the nation’s largest privately-held, family-owned auto insurance group, staffed by over 450 insurance professionals, and servicing over 250,000 policyholders. Private ownership provides a competitive advantage for both Safeway and over 2,700 independent producers who partner with us. Since we don’t answer to big institutional shareholders, we can focus on doing the right things for our policyholders, our producer partners and our business, all the time, throughout the industry’s cycles.
As an insurance entity, the companies within the Safeway Insurance Group are reviewed and rated by industry analysts. The A.M. Best Company, the most respected independent insurance industry analyst, rates the Safeway Insurance Group as "Excellent".
